Women of Cannabis: Christine De La Rosa aims to make Cannabis accessible to all

CEO and founder of The People’s Dispensary – Christine De La Rosa is a mighty force in the industry and is working on making Cannabis more equitable for all. Cannabis has become a luxury, making it easy only for the upper and upper middle class to afford and De La Rosa aims to change that. The People’s Dispensary is the closest thing to an equity franchise model that exists in the cannabis space, aiming to both serve and be owned by communities that surround the dispensary. And it’s growing from its Portland flagship to more markets: Chicago, Fresno, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. De La Rosa’s cause is close to her heart, as cannabis has been a treatment for her own chronic illness. “I honestly do not know what my life would be like today without cannabis.”

Here’s what De La Rosa has to say about her mission: "The cannabis industry has the potential to be healing to an entire society by offering alternative therapies to everyone. I know from experience that this plant has enhanced my quality of life, but more importantly, it has saved my life. I am grateful to have had the access and ability to switch my entire pharmaceutical regimen to cannabis and create a new life on the other side of illness. I am a businesswoman and understand the need for the bottom line. However, my advice for current and future cannabis entrepreneurs and business owners is to lead with the goal of utilizing cannabis to heal communities at every level and let go of the greed that has embedded itself into the industry. Prioritizing the health and well-being of our communities will lead to the bottom line that you are seeking in a way that is sustainable and accessible. Never lose sight that each of us has the power to create an industry that is just."

Women of Cannabis: Maha Haq is a powerhouse in Cannabis education

Haq is a powerhouse in cannabis education. She is President and founder of Cannaclub University, a web of student alliances for those students who seek to concentrate on cannabis science, and aim to enter the cannabis space post-graduation, launching Cannaclub University at her alma mater of UCLA, the organization which now spans the country. She also works at an ISO accredited cannabis testing lab, CannaSafe Analytics. Haq is a champion for women and POC in the space, as well as a keynote speaker on cannabis education.

Being an immigrant child with strict parents made this journey difficult for Maha. When she was caught smoking at age 17, is when her career in Cannabis education began and her mom was her first candidate. Her mom is a clinical researcher at a cannabis hospital and was truly impressed by the benefits of Cannabis. She even took up the chance to present it to her colleagues and their patients. “I founded Cannaclub in an effort to combine career interests with my academic studies. While attending college, I managed operations at vertically integrated medical dispensaries for three years. I later joined a cannabis consulting firm based in Denver where I developed legal cannabis businesses in numerous states and six countries” she said when asked about how her story began.

Her advice for budding Cannabis entrepreneurs goes like this “work to realize how powerful you can be in the cannabis industry. We have a unique chance to mold a massive new market. Opportunities are everywhere, from business development and policymaking to healthcare solutions and scientific research. Anyone can become a pioneer in this space. Engage and participate with your community — doing so will promote advocacy, education, and transparency. Study the past, impact the present, and plan for the future.”

She has also worked towards changing the sexist ambience at dispensaries where women are made to wear revealing clothes while being a budtender. She says this is an obstacle for herself and many women in the industry. “Although I am no longer experiencing the same pressures as I did before, there is still an unfavorable behavior and perspective towards women in the cannabis space” she said.

As someone who is half Indian and Pakistani, her road to success was not smooth but she has persisted to become an inspiration for all women across the globe. With new research and education acceptance is sure to follow!

Women of Cannabis: How Andrea McLean dealt with menopause using CBD!

Menopause is the time that marks the end of your menstrual cycles. It's diagnosed after you've gone 12 months without a menstrual period. Menopause can happen in your 40s or 50s. Menopause and all its symptoms can be grueling. Women dread this phase in their lives because of the sheer trouble they have to undergo for an extended period (literally) of time. Just to break it down for you, here are some very common symptoms that almost all women experience:

      • Irregular periods.
      • Vaginal dryness.
      • Hot flashes.
      • Chills.
      • Night sweats.
      • Sleep problems.
      • Mood changes.
      • Weight gain and slowed metabolism

There are many methods to go about this experience. You can either go through it kicking and screaming with no help, take help from your doctors through hormone balancing meds or you can turn to natural and effective methods like CBD. This is what Scottish Journalist and Television presenter Andrea McLean did. She was introduced to CBD by her husband and has admitted that she turned to using the herbal remedy of CBD oil - when she heard about it being used to relieve side effects of going through hormonal changes. She said in 2018: ‘I was 37 when the hot sweats started, mainly at night. I was like, “What?” ‘I got pregnant shortly afterwards — there is a rush of hormones afterwards and you need to be really careful around that time.’ Apart from menopause, she also uses it to help with her anxiety which can hinder her day-to-day life. 'It [CBD oil] has massively taken the edge off things with the flushes and it has made me less anxious because anxiety is still a key thing for me.' She shared. Andrea gushed about CBD oil, saying it has ‘massively taken the edge off things’ with regards to her hot flushes.

Women of Cannabis: Teal Stetson-Lee, professional cyclist loves to ease her soreness with CBD!

Many in the fitness world are looking for CBD for athletes but may be hesitant to do so as they are worried that this may cause them to get an adverse result in a drug test that could see them fined or even banned from their sport. CBD is one of around 100 cannabinoids, or unique compounds, that are found naturally in the cannabis plant.

It is completely different from that other famous cannabinoid, THC, in that it is completely non-psychoactive and has no potential for addiction or overdose and has no significant side effects. CBD has many properties that make it beneficial to humans, notably supporting the endocannabinoid system in the human body. Given that CBD is a non-psychoactive, non-addictive compound, you would think that there would be no problem with athletes using it to aid with training and competition, just like they take vitamins and other supplements.

A few reasons why athletes love CBD are:

      • Pre-match nerves – the calming effects of CBD can help relieve any anxiety that athletes have in the run-up to a game, fight or performance. It also helps them to get a good night’s sleep, which is key for helping them to feel prepared and rested
      • Weight management – CBD products are thought to act as an appetite suppressant in some people, making it easier for athletes to stick to their diets and maintain their physiques
      • Pain relief – sore muscles can hold athletes back from their training regimes, and so the anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties of cannabidiol can help them to get back to the gym sooner

And one such athlete who loves the relieving benefits of CBD is Teal Stetson-Lee! “Most professional athletes who have come out as advocates for cannabis do not do so until after their careers are over, for fear of immediate repercussions,” wrote Stetson-Lee. “That is exactly the reason why I feel the need to take this stance, while I am still in the prime of my competitive professional career.”

“As an athlete, the CBD tinctures and creams are extremely useful for injuries and sore muscles,” she added.

If you’re an athlete or someone who is into physical fitness in general, CBD can help you solve a lot of obstacles you may face. So give it a try! And since it’s Women’s Month, the ladies can avail 10% off on their purchases with the code WMN10.

Women of Cannabis: Kourtney jumps aboard the CBD train with new product!

You may have read about Kim Kardashian and her famous CBD-themed zen baby shower. When you think celebs and CBD, Kim Kardashian is one of the first names to come to mind. However, did you know that her sister Kourtney has also been keeping up with Kim and the magnificent benefits of CBD? Kourtney Kardashian is the founder of the brand Poosh which offers many beauty solutions and products.

Kourtney has recently launched a CBD serum that uses the active ingredients in Cannabis for her skincare regime. She has collaborated with Hora and created a Hyaluronic and CBD serum that comes along with a derma roller. She claims this will transform your skin and she isn’t wrong. Because CBD presents many amazing benefits for your skin which include:

      • Anti-inflammatory benefits
      • Calms acne
      • Reduces dryness and itching
      • Is rich in antioxidants
      • Reduces oxidative stress
      • Helps you acquire a glow

Surely Kourney and her team are well-versed with these benefits, which is why they’ve chosen to incorporate this amazing ingredient into the product. ‘Using the Derma Roller only enhances the effects of the serum, so the combination is magical. Ahhhhh I love this serum so much…I CAN NOT wait for you guys to try it and hear what you think!’ said Kourtney. By counteracting free-radical damage the serum strives to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and discolouration of the skin that comes with age and poor exposure. CBD has also worked wonders on acne-prone skin primarily because of its anti-inflammatory benefits. CBD sure has antioxidant properties and also is beneficial for sensitive skin. It has substantial skin relaxing benefits in it and is slowly becoming the norm of the cosmetic and healthcare industry.
