The Way To Achieve Nirvana During Shivratri Celebration- 'CANNABIS'

“To the five kingdoms of the plants, which Soma rules as Lord we speak, Darbha, bhang, barley, mighty power: may these deliver us from woe.” –Atharva Veda

Shivaratri is an important Hindu festival celebrated in India and many other countries. The great night of lord Shiva and most significant for mortals who are on a spiritual path.

This has led to the tradition of consuming bhang during Shivaratri celebrations, with some people even offering it as an offering to Lord Shiva. Furthermore, many believe that cannabis helps in spiritual awakening and enlightenment which makes its use even more significant on Shivaratri.

Blissful Neuronal Nutraceutical “Cannabis”

In the Atharva Veda - Blissful Neuronal Nutraceutical “Cannabis” is named one of the five most sacred plants on Earth. The narrative also refers to it as a source of happiness'& a 'liberator'.

Cannabis use in different forms for spiritual awakening has been followed for thousands of years in India, and is even mentioned in the ancient Atharvaveda (1200-1500 BC), where cannabis (Bhang) is classified as one of the 5 most sacred plants on Earth. It is considered as a source of bliss, joy-giver, liberator that was benevolently consumed by the human being to attain a state of nirvana (delights and loses fear).

Religious significance of “Cannabis”

During Shivaratri, it is said that consuming cannabis can bring one closer to Lord Shiva's divine energy and help them connect with their inner self. Not only does it bring a sense of peace and tranquility but also provides an opportunity for deep contemplation on life’s mysteries.

Therefore, it can be said that cannabis plays an important role in connecting people to the spiritual traditions of Shivaratri by providing an opportunity for introspection and contemplation on life’s mysteries.

According to Vedas reference, when the amrita (elixir of life) was produced from the churning of the ocean by devas and the asuras as described in the Samudra Manthan, Shiva created cannabis from his own body to purify the elixir (angaja or “body-born”). Another reference suggests that the cannabis plant surfaced when a drop of the elixir dropped on the ground. Thus, cannabis is used by sages & sadhus due to its connection with elixir and Shiva.

Bhang is believed to unite one with Shiva, cleanse sins, and avoid the miseries of hell in the future life. It is also believed to have medicinal benefits and is used in Ayurvedic medicine for the management of pains, headaches, and anxiety, cannabis or bhang is also believed to bring relief in health issues like nerve pain, arthritis pain, insomnia, and other psychological disorders.
